             History

Sweet Potato Mountain is a vacation rental property nestled in the High Desert of the San Bernardino National Forest. Located in
the Town of Apple Valley it is a desert oasis. This property was a vision of  Joe, a Mississippi sharecropper who farmed cotton,
sugar cane and everyone's favorite---sweet potatoes.  When Joe moved out west to Los Angeles, California, he was surprised by
the hustle and bustle of the busy town. He always dreamed of settling in a quiet town like the one he left in Mississippi. Thus the
search for a serene city to retire in began. When Farmer Joe saw this property, he was greeted by rabbits and squirrels, which
reminded him of the friendly pests that used to nibble on his crops back in Mississippi. He decided to purchase the land and build a
home that would allow him dual views of the San Bernardino mountains and the valleys below. This property was exactly what he
was looking for. Many days Joe would sit in at  the front window to enjoy the panoramic view of the valley during sunset. He called
the color of the sunset "sweet potato orange". Thus, the name Sweet Potato Mountain came to be.

The summer months (May-September) boasts the hottest temperatures (averaging 100 degrees), yet brings beautiful summer skys
and sunsets. Neighbors boast of relief from the heat at around 5:00PM, when a gentle breeze settles in from the West. This is the

winter months are equally pleasant with cooler temperatures and majestic morning views. November and December rains often
bring snow, hot cocoa and fireside chats.
